Trying new foods is an adventure that some folks dive into without fear or hesitation, while others make faces and turn away like a child confronted with a heaping plate of Brussels Sprouts and liver. Most folks fall in-between the two, delicately sticking out their tongue at the approaching forkful of food to tentatively taste it and feel the texture before committing to chewing and swallowing.
My experience the past few years, adding whole grains to my meals and snacks, has been with baby steps and the help of the bulk food sections of the grocery stores. Somehow knowing that I can buy a small handful of grains with weird names like, Kamut and quinoa, for mere pennies, makes the adventure that much more alluring.
The worse that can happen is you won't like the taste or texture of the new food item. So what! Just don't try it again. Actually that's not the worst that can happen in the adventurous world of food. Nope. Worse case scenario - YOU LOVE IT! You crave it, need it, devour it and oh no! one day CAN'T FIND IT! Bad year for the crop, lack of consumer interest, or the government bans it due to high demand for the intense satisfaction it gives (it's a wonder chocolate is still legal!).
